11.11.04 This Week in the Studio
Written by Jimmy
Short Friday session. We focused on four things:
The Music:
Our main goal was to work with Mike, Rob and Andy to develop a new song for a ‘global remix.’ We focused on re-doing ‘The Only Thing that’s Missing’ which was from our second album, Misery Marmalade and Other Spanish Jams. The boys got a couple hours to get a nice little groove and we think it is good enough to take to Nairobi in mid November for a studio session. Rather than our sad character in the ‘fogged up bus’ yearn for a Spanish villa, we’ll switch it to our character yearning for Africa. We’ll work with Ketebul to get the lyrics Right. We did a pretty good job last time on 71 Hours to Monday:
Second, we worked on a new song, called Before the Fall. Another product of Jimmy’s failed guitar lesson mission. But it does feature around the fret board a bit, which is not bad for ‘open chord’ boy. Had fun with the chord wheel and did a middle 8 with a alternating F#Major and B minor. Rob warned me that I didn’t have to follow my chord wheel religiously. I pretended I didn’t understand. Here’s my chord wheel:
Everything Else
We then spent quite a time on the Singing Wells Project sorting out cameras, budgets, license fees for entering Rwanda, etc… This is a good time to plug the Uganda Embassy at Trafalgar Square. It took us a total of 4 minutes and thirteen seconds to get visas. Well done. in contrast, it took our family about 9 hours to get new US Passports! So, here’s a picture as they win our ‘High Commission’ house of the week.
Finally, speaking of rewards, we also did our random selection for our winner of the Midomo Bracelet. We will be announcing this shortly. We have our first Midomo Water purifier up and operating and we’ll add the link to our Africa Map once we’ve announced the winner.
That’s it.
