Music in Addis Ababa

Had an interesting trip to Melbourne, stopping off in Ethiopia to speak for an hour. If you look at a map, that’s not realloy the best idea. Involved flights from London to Jo Burg to Addis Ababa to Dubai to Kuala Lampor to Melbourne. My skin was rubbed off from all the hot towels. Here’s a map I should have looked at BEFORE:
Ethiopian music, like Kenya music, is very diverse. But it has an instrument called the Krar, which is not that far off from the Kenyan Nyatiti (which we all know now is played by the legendary Ayub Ogado, friend to the Singing Wells Project and start of 71 Hours to Monday Global Remix). I was trying to find a great example of a Krar player and ran into this. Love the old man, but can’t find out any more about him:
