Global Village Part 1

Written by

So, on our last jaunt down to Casa Abubilla, we neglected to transfer one of the tunes onto our transfer drives. The reasons for this are a few fold, but to cut a long story short, a lesson in good file housekeeping has been learnt by all.

That’s fine I said, lets just see if someone down there can connect to my idisk and upload the files. Now, I have had problems with the idisk before, and now we try to upload 1.06GB to it, and it just kept flaking out. Hang on I said, I have an idea. I sped over to the AIM website, and created an account for the villa and then gave this to our star on the ground down there, who set up ichat and we were in. Utilising the ‘Screen Sharing’ feature I was able to take control of the Abubilla ES iMac with my laptop. Cue astonishment from Spain.

Prior to this I had setup a free account with Dropbox, which gives you 2GB of free storage online, and syncs folders between machines. So I used their online uploader and I now have all of the BVs, Martyn’s Guitar, the shaker and some piano. So no bass, vocals or acoustic. Ah.

Will try again and report back. Welcome to our global village.

Now of course we could have put it on a memory stick and sent it across in the mail. It would however have travelled in cattle class, most probably, which we all know is worrying for livestock. Also putting music on any size of aeroplane, can have disastrous consequences as have been discussed in another post I believe.

  1. More info on the global village bit of this: on Tuesday last week, a boy from Newcastle was on the phone with a woman from the Phillipines and a man from India, in a villa in Spain owned by a weird dude from US downloading a song about a family in Moscow. How often does that happen?
