Newsflash: The Queen’s Gig
Written by Jimmy
A quick newsflash: Rob and Martyn were both seen gigging on Saturday, dressed in tuxes, accompanied by nieces (really) and jammin’ thru some sets that would do the Commitments proud (link to Try a Little Tenderness, because I can). As one would expect, Rob held the band together with some wicked bass lines and Martyn dazzled the crowd with his guitar and lead vocals on Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, a Wilson Pickett classic. Rob was splendid in Black Hat, Skinny Tie and David Byrne’s Big Suit. All to Celebrate Alice and Martyn’s 10th Wedding Annivesary and Alice’s MBE for Beauty to Livestock. The Allens had to leave at 4AM, but we were told the Queen’s arrival was imminent. A final note: MARTYN’s OTHER BAND has two great sax players and three back up girl singers, one of whom has a great rock and roll voice. Two sax players. I guess he hasn’t heard us mention, about 476 times, that we sure could use a sax player. I guess it must have just slipped his mind. I say, doh!
