Pratap and Joy

Written by

Pratap is our gardener in Spain.  Joy takes care of the house.  They are married and Abubilla Music cannot exist without them.   They make an amazing Indian food evening that kicks of our week long sessions.   And they lay out extraordinary Spanish Tapas outside, under the porch, out of the sun, but close to our Canasta games.  And they are very cool.

And Pratap has pretty much concluded Jimmy is an idiot, joining the long list of folks that view Jimmy as an idiot (see any number of blogs, but worth starting with Kathy the Saint).     Typically, his discussions with the family  go something like this:

  • Jimmy:  Pratap, I was thinking of a really cool idea to do with the villa…[insert really stupid idea here]
  • Pratap to Jimmy:  Yes, sir, this sounds like a good idea.
  • (Days later…) Pratap to Kathy:  Sir has asked me to do [insert really stupid idea here].
  • Kathy:   Hopefully you ignored this.
  • Pratap:  Yes.  I have ignored it.
  • Kathy:  Thank you.

So, Jimmy got his revenge.  He did this studio thing and told Pratap there would be a couple of packages arriving that he should store until Andy and I could set them up.   And Jimmy ordered what we needed.  It turned out there were 117 packages.  And each involved Pratap having to drive up to the villa complex office to get the package and drive back to our place.  About 20 minute round trip.  Over 6 weeks.   Pratap doesn’t talk to Jimmy anymore.  Sort of like Tati (see Knife Will Come).

And Joy just giggles.  She is pretty sure we are all insane.   She doesn’t understand why Rob, the bassist, sleeps in the studio.   And she doesn’t understand why adults play so much with dominoes (See games).  And she doesn’t understand why Tory and her friends slide on a slippy slide in the back garden and use up all the Fairy Liquid.   so she giggles.  Rather uncomfortably.

But, they are also part of the big messy family.  So the music is definitely their fault.  And they love a tin whistle.
