Song Discovery 2: 09.12.06

Written by

Okay, here we go; another additon of ‘song discovery’ where we spread lots of trivia about our favourite songs.  So let’s begin the list making, starting with the sound track to one of the best porn films ever made.Thought that would get you to click more.  No, porn isn’t really known for its soundtracks.  This week we benefit from the views of anyone that was sitting next to the couch while Jimmy was writing this list – so you have guest appearances from Tati, Kathy and Hunter.  So let the list begin:

1.  The best ‘man I didn’t see that coming cover.’  First nomination goes to Pearl Jam for Hey You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away and second to Grove-Hill for Revolution.  love the fan.  We need a fan (no really).    Then everyone knows Jerry C’s Pacabel’s Canon, but have to include it.  And there are 100 of them, but here’s a nice dueling banjos cover, (and their first posting)  but let’s always watch the Deliverance original (now here’s an odd thought pattern:  Deliverance reminded me of red-necks and fact that red necks sort of lose in Deliverance, but win in Easy Rider, which made me think of Jack N in Easy Rider, which made me think of the Jim Beam scene.  Weird. And then for no reason  you get  this little drummin’ kid.)

2. Cheapest best video goes to ‘Go Go’s’ with A Million Ways, followed by Orson’s No Tomorrow, which is great song until Chorus when they sound like REO Speedwagon, which is not a good thing (click at your peril).   Not to be confused with my favourite set of literal videos, starting with Total Eclipse of the Heart, followed by Under the Bridge.  If you haven’t wathed one of these, you should.

3.  Hunter’s top songs of the month (until he gets his blog going) are:  Earth, Wind and Fire, Spider’s Web, and Dance of the Young Professional all by Jamie T.  He also really likes Jerusalem and Song for the Doomed by Kiernan Leonard — Tati and Hunter always watch him at Gas Light and are seeing him tonight (Sunday 6 Dec).   Finally, he likes The Lost Art of Murder by Babyshambles.

4. Tati is a big Artic Monkeys fan so nominated Certain Romance  and Mardi Bum.  And she wants to be very clear to me that THESE guys know how to write lyrics (see the TKWC). And Tati wants you to check out her dad’s website.

5. And Kathy wants to log her favourite songs:  Slippery People,  Talking Heads, Old Man, Niel Young, and Wires, Athelete.

That’s it until next week.  Enjoy.  Jimmy
