Top 5: 09.12.05

This is our weird and wonderful blog for our random Top 5 items of interest for the week.  Play around with the links and add your comments.  Enjoy and waste a little time.

1.  Top Nominations for You Tube performances with a slightly musical bent.   We start with some old classics that are worth dusting off and have an appropriate music theme.  The first is Chris Bliss Juggling to the Golden Slumbers.   Great little act and wonderful song.   The second entry, again driven in part by good music is the famous Mentos and Diet Coke.    The 3rd is roller skating music making, which is pretty impressive.  And finally, keeping the music theme, is the ‘ball instrument.’

2. Top Nominations for You Tube Performance involving mostly farm animals.  First nominee is, of course, ‘Fainting Goats’ which still cracks me up. This is followed by Sheep Lights and then finally Dancing Cow to ‘I like to moo it, moo it.’

3. Top Nominations in the Magic category.  I wanted to start with the trick you all saw on America’s Got Talent about the Guy Cut in Half, but follow by citing a website that talks about how its done. Worth reading the blog thru all 17 comments.  [So here’s a question for you.  Is it really a legitimate trick involving cutting a guy in half, when the illusion directions starts with: ‘first get grown man that is already only half a man, or use legless dwarf’?  I mean,  that’s not really a trick about cutting a guy in half, its a trick about making a half guy look like he’s whole at beginning and end of a trick.  Reminds me of when I bought my first car — a 1969 VW Bug.  I was proud and then bought a book on ‘how to keep your volkswagen alive.’   It was marketing as a book for folks who know nothing about cars — me.  So i buy it, have a problem with the car, go to the book’s step by step guide. First step?  Remove engine.  With no other explanation.  So you buy a magic book and want to saw a girl in half.  Step one?  Start with half a girl.  Sheesh.]  The second nomination is Julian Beever’s pavement art.  Look thru all of his work.  Finally, there’s this whole human art thing going on, starting with ‘Why is my girlfriend mad?’ but also includes some fantastic shadow work.

4. Nominations in the baby category.  Only my favourite three all of which you’ll know:  Charlie Bit me, baby farting, laughing triplets laughing baby, tunnel baby (third one in clip) and to end with a musical theme — amazing ‘breakdance baby’ (real baby not CGI thing).   I dare you to get thru laughing babies without cracking up.

5. Nominations for Stupid Pets.  Start with a great two minute clip to We Will Rock you, and pause on skipping cat at 35 seconds in.   This is followed by the world famour ‘Playing dead dog’ from Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks.   This is in my top 5 of greatest internet clips.   We end this category with a bonus feature on Falling Cat.  Only 8 seconds, but magic.

Till next week… Jimmy
