‘A nice surprise!’ (note lyrics… ‘The Knife Will Come’)
Written by Nataasha
Well…. where do I start? I guess it is appropriate to begin with destiny, as after all that is how I feel when it comes to Abubilla and its Saturday sessions!
As an individual with way to much dreaming on her hands it is a rarity when it comes to checking whats happening in the world of collaborative artists and the media scene but to my amazement I stumbled across a post from Abubilla (Louise) sourcing a Music Video Director for Saturday Morning Canasta Club/ Abubilla Music. With fading hope as a starting out Director I received a reply to discuss my ideas further. After a series of purely positive and motivating correspondence from Louise and Jimmy I finally met Louise in Soho. We talked for 3 or so hours about EVERYTHING! As I descended the escalator on my return home I remember the most wonderful feeling of absolute content in finding a collaborative group, a purpose, a motivation and above all the freedom to explore my creative journey and the ideas that unfold within the process. When talking to Louise about Jimmy… I must admit he seemed similar to Charlie ( charlies angels). Louise reporting back my thoughts and myself waiting for an office phone/meeting (with a pre delivered saturday pizza!). This of course was all in my imagination. I nervously put a few ideas together for the band’s music video and turned up for a Saturday session in December.
A warm, kind welcoming, group of fun, easy going and motivating musicians/artists. The nerves disintegrated along with my hunger over pizza and chit chat and I felt immediately a sense of belonging. Jimmy was not a conference call but in fact the roots of younger branches upon which blossoms grew.
After giving a terrible pitch but alot of enthusiasm I received the go ahead to Direct (along with produce, design) their first official Music Video for ‘ The Knife will come’ a track encompassing wit, innocence, loneliness, darkness, revenge and in my mind self destruction! An extremely ambitious production, but what passionate film-maker in the end doesn’t deliver on a challenge??
As I left the studio I felt grateful for the trust the band had in my vision and the additional challenge of laying down some vocals in the future! ahhh….cant find my note at the moment! it will come im sure!
To conclude.. I feel part of the magnificent collaboration Abubilla has proved to be and thank the day that destiny was looking over me and guiding me to them!
The video will be launched on Febuary 14th… a highly visual, crazy yet stylish and at many times surreal piece of madness! Will keep posts updated regarding the process and the unseen details of film-making one rarely sees until viewing a polished final cut on the big screen!
Welcome Nataasha.
And not to give too much away, but video may involve some great ‘Saw’ like scenes involving the song-writer/vocalist of No Poetry Fame. We’re really praying there are no ‘on site’ accidents… ahem.
