A tale of two Eds

Ed and Ed.  A true Story.

So, y’all know I’m quite a big Ed Harcourt fan (a proper song writer, with proper melodies and instrumentation and lyrics and – yes, I have admit it – interesting chords). I hope you have all been listening (and preparing to purchase) his new album Lustre, which is currently streaming on his website http://www.edharcourt.com/homenews/.

Anyhow, there is now a cool little addition to the above plug. I was on a flight to Berlin this morning (I need to work out of Berlin for around 3 days a week on my current project), and as I was taking my seat two girls walked by, carrying violin cases, one of whom I was pretty sure was a lady called Gita Harcourt, who is Ed Harcourt’s wife (I should at this juncture mention that Gita plays in a cool band called the Langley Sisters, whom I had come across on some YouTube clips after seeing one of those ‘related artists’ links on a website somewhere, and I recognised her from the few videos I had seen. Don’t worry, I don’t tend to go around searching out other people’s wives…)

I said I was ‘pretty sure’ she was Gita Harcourt – her mentioning the name ‘Ed’ a few times, and saying her husband played in a band as she was sitting down behind me I were the final pieces of evidence I needed.

At that moment, Jimmy’s assertion that we should all take opportunities to further the Abubilla cause, no matter how shallow, came screaming into my mind. But I was in the middle of an airplane, and there was no way I was going to that awful ‘I’m such a big fan’ thing in the middle of business class (especially as I was actually saying  ‘yeah, you’re pretty good, but dang, your husband is seriously hot!’). What to do? What to do?

In the end, I figured it would be easiest to chat out in the arrivals lounge by the luggage track (saving both her and me some embarrassment). Once there, the rest of my team went on ahead (later turned out they waited for me by the taxis so I had to explain just how-sad-a fan I had just been!), where upon I quickly scribbled the Abubilla website address on a piece of paper, plucked up my courage (I always get nervous with new people, especially good looking well connected ones!) and went up to her. I’ll spare you the blow by blow dialogue, but overall we chatted about how cool the new Lustre album was (as I’m sure you know by now, having listened to it several times already!), what she was doing in Berlin (playing with one of her Langley sisters at a corporate conference type show), and that she and Ed should check out the Abubilla music site.

So Gita and Ed – if you’re reading this, a) well done for not losing that little piece of paper and b) tell us what you think!!!
