Background to Songs: Box of Yellow Roses

Written by

Dad died after great life.   Raised in Texas and Yellow Roses was his symbol.   At funeral, last act was to place yellow roses on his casket, until you couldn’t see it anymore.  That’s the song.4 things.

  1. This was a song of celebration and I really hope it feels that way.  Father had a life 84 years long but last years were very hard.  In his eulogy I mentioned that God threw his wheelchair away and that he was definitely debating with Da Vinci.   Lyrics are just the eulogy really.   Had the thought about choosing shade of black and wanting his opinion when buying my funeal suit, and of course, we’re calling Mom five times a day.  But above all we think he’s in a better place and choose to believ that.
  2. Had the tune done except for Middle 8 which I had no idea what to do with. Andy, as ever, transformed it into something very good.   And Rob delivers the magic base and Mike creates the military drum in outro.
  3. But the real magic is Hannah, our young assistant, who went from serving tea to performing on this one.  Ed did the vocal arrangements for her, but love her voice over Andy’s.
  4. Sophie laughed the whole way thru doing the cello bit, which helped a lot.  Honesty.  She’ll hate this comment and probably write a comment shouting her innocence.  Typical.  Watch for it!

And that’s it.

  1. This makes me sound like a heartless fiend! Wasn’t laughing at the song, just at Jimmy being a muppet.

I think this is actually one of my favourite songs. Beautiful.
