Background to Songs: She Knows

Written by

Andy loves it.  Ed hates it.  We haven’t told Ed we put it on the album.  Shhhhhh.

6 things:

  1. Ed wrote the riff as he was sent to the front room with Rob and Mike to write the music for One in a Trillion.   We tried and failed to make that work.  Never has one riff played so often in one song. When we like something, well…
  2. Andy wrote most of the melody and lyrics to She Knows by essentially singing live over Ed’s version of One in a Trillion.    He loved the phrase Ans as the hot winds in the City Rise, I can see it in her eyes.’  And then he told Jimmy, with his typical respect, to ‘make that make sense.’
  3. And then came Jazz Hands.   Andy had a fairly inspired period that included adding Cello and Beatbox to Sat Out.  Here he decided to go Jazz Hands on the Chorus, bringing Hannah and Lou into the studio to do track after track of vocals — ooooh, ooooh, ahhhhhh.  Lovely — there are some incredible high vocals from both of them buried in that section and an ambulance was called.
  4. Andy put down a nice little harmonica in the middle of this.
  5. Ed kept asking when we were going to stop messin’ around and do something with She Knows.  He kept pointing out that there was ‘no song in that song’ just his riff.  And he wasn’t molified by Jazz Hands, even thought he thought tha bit was cool.  He is still waiting for us to do the song.  And we have NOT told him it is on the album.
  6. And finally, and this is so critical for Abubilla Music fans, we are now in the proud company of James Taylor, George Harrison, Cole Porter, Paul Weller and Nirvana.    And you know why:  we have used ‘Something in the way she moves’ in one of our songs.   Legendary.  Did you actually miss the blog of Something in Music?
