Jam Jar Competition
Written by Louise
You design us a label for one of our jam jars and we’ll put it on our next album cover – Misery Marmalade and Other Spanish Jams. It’s sort of like an open competition, except there’s not much competition…
Here’s the deal. Our next album is going to be called Misery Marmalade and Other Spanish Jams (our time what we spend in Spain we call our ‘jams’, but then we did jam around these really sad chords, which wasn’t quite as funky as a jam, so it became a marmalade. Yeah. We are cool.), and we had this idea that we could have a whole series of photos of jam jars on the cover, and each jar would represent a song on the album. And the label for each jar would look like a jam jar label but instead of saying ‘Oxford Marmalade’, or whatever, it would say ‘An Immovable Thing’ or ‘Big Old Bird’. You know?
And inside the jar could be something that also represented that song – like some feathers for ‘Big Old Bird’, or some broken heart confetti for ‘An Immovable Thing’ (do they make broken heart confetti? That would be sad…).
And inside inside, the liner notes would fold/pull out to reveal all the jam jars on a shelf, with the lyrics and credits for each song on the back label (which we’ll have to cheat, because the lyrics won’t actually fit on a jam jar because we have quite wordy songs).
And here’s how…
Each newsletter we will ‘release’ one of our new songs, which will probably be on our next album. We will also show you a picture of the jam jar we think should contain the song, and the largest dimensions of the label you can use. If you take a fancy to the song, and have taken a fancy to our Jam Jar notion – and feel the Muse, of course – design us a label! It can be as quirky and colourful as you like.
Next newsletter I will have an example to show you, as well as a song and a jam jar and it’s label dimensions! I’m going to be very busy.
This is a very cool idea.
I’ll let all the arty people at my school know.

So, what’s been there reply? Assuming you’ve nailed 3 jam jar artists?
