Music Under The Stars – North Haven

Written by

This is Abubilla Music writing for Rip about the music of North Haven.

Music Under the Stars is an annual free sumer concert held in North Haven Town Green. Anyone can come and bring lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy music on a summer’s evening. It is presented by the Department of Community Service, in conjunction with the North Haven business community.

This year playing at the concert is Emil Stucchio and the Classics. Lead singer Stucchio is joined by fellow vocalists Al Contrera and Teresa McClean and his band. Previously the Classics have performed with The Mystics and The Passions. The Classics are best known for their beautiful cover of ‘Till Then’ which reached number 20 on the U.S pop chart. They have been performing for over 4 decades in a range of different styles including 50s and 60s hits, Italian songs, contemporary pieces as well as covers of 20s and 30s pop songs. As well as that, the band perform comedy routines in between songs.

Also preforming this year is an 11 piece rock and swing band ensemble from New York City called The Jumpers Orchestra. They will perform a mixture of swing, jazz, big band and rock numbers. Their line up includes classics such as ‘Jump, Jive and Wail’, ‘Route 66’, ‘Lady is a Tramp’, ‘Hawaii 5-0’, ‘Over the Rainbow’, ‘Beyond the sea’ and ‘Mack the knife’.

Music Under the Stars would not be the same if Vinnie Carr and the Party Band weren’t performing, since they have appeared at every Music Under the Stars concert since it started in the 1970s. Carr formed his first band aged 19 while he was in the United States Army. He has performed with many groups including Crest, Danny and the Juniors, the Classics, the Impalas, the Five Satins, the Drifters and many more, also appearing with Frank Sinatra Jr., Pat Cooper and Jack Carter. This year his set will include music from the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s as well as some favourite contemporary pieces. His music is largely family orientated. To add some rock to the concert, the band Almost Famous is set to perform. Almost Famous is made up of 5 musicians from New York who have all toured and recored with major acts. Almost Famous will be performing songs from well know bands such as Journey, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Guns n’ Roses, Led Zeplin, Bon Jovi and many more. If the crowd want to dance they will also be performing favourites from much loved funk groups including Wild Cherry, Kool and the Gang, The Commodores and KC and the Sunshine Band.
