Song Discovery: 10.02.14 Valentine’s Special
Written by Jimmy
This is it — the long promised and long threatened Valentines Day Song Discovery. I pulled in our ‘Voices’ gang (more on this later) to help… Listen up
Here was the ‘ask’ of the ‘voices’ gang. Name your favourite love song but a) it can’t be well known, b) should be from a band or album we want to discover and c) for extra points, it is by someone not really known for Love Songs.
1. Hunter: Look for the Woman, Dan Le Sac & Scroobious Pip.
2. Winky: Cowboy Junkies, Aniversary Song.
3. Tory: Jamie T, Emily’s Heart
4. Antione: Jacques Brel, Orly; EdithPiaf, Hymne a l’Amour; Le Maudit by Véronique Sanson.
5. Jimmy: Nick Cave, Into My Arms. ‘I don’t believe in an interventionist God…but if I did, I would kneel down and ask him…to leave you as you are and …if he had to direct you…direct you into my arms.’ Perfect.
6. Louise: Regina Spektor, Samson (thanks to Hannah for reminding us how good it is)
9. Morgan: Funny Little Frog by Ben & Sebastian
10. Lewie: Who Let the Dogs Out. He’s still a young puppy and didn’t really really understand the assignment. Bless.
Happy Valentines Day
Jimmy
I love Randy Newman and I love Toy Story!
This song discovery list should be made into an album for next years valentines day. I think it’s a rather good collection.
Something like ‘Unlikely Love Songs’
