Voices London: Song Discovery: 10.03.05- Hunter’s edition

Written by

Hey its Hunter, and I though it was about time for a bit more song discovery:

1. Rum Shebeen– This is a tropical punk band based in London. I found them as they were supporting for Jamie T and Brixton Academy. I love their Sex Pistols sounds with a Carribean twist, its truly refreshing. I particularly like the song “i’m an old punk”, which you can see on their myspace. Also “Lock A Monkey Up” is a very fun song. i definitely recommend checking out all their stuff.

2.Life in Quarantine– One of the funniest music videos on youtube. this rapper suffered from tuberculosis so had to have 2 months in quarantine, so he made this song to deal with his sanity. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a very long time.

3.Get Down Moses- Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros– Joe Strummer at his coolest. if you haven’t heard this you really must, it is an brilliantly trippy record.

4.Down in Mexico- The Coasters The smooth jazzy rock anthem is quite simply the definition of cool, I absolutely adore this song.

5. Wrapped Up in Books- Belle and Sebastian– If you know Belle and Sebastian chances are you know this song, if not, listen to it and work from there. A really beautiful piece of music.

6. Essence Remixes – Essence remixes specialise in remixing hip-hop classics, mixing the old with the new, East Coast and West. Two of my favorites are  Tupac ft. Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G. & Dr Dre – ‘Don’t Go To Sleep’ and the brilliant tribute to two of the greats Tupac ft. Notorious B.I.G. ‘n’ K-CI & JO-JO – “Toss It Up”

7. Gorillaz feat. Jamie T- Kids With Guns remix, here Jamie T manages to turn a great song brilliant. This is the song which made me fall in love Jamie T.

8.Run Everything Charlie Sloth FT Rodney P & Killa Benz– The British rap scene is full of a lot of crap, but this shows you what it can be , a fun fast and lyrically tight song

9. Dead Weather  a really exciting band to check you, Jack white is back and better than every, well not qwuite up to the standards of the album “Elephant” but getting there. One of my favorites its “You Just Can’t Win“.

10.Jezebel- Dizzee rascal, one of my personal favorites from his Boy in da corner album.  A very unique sound

11. Ain’t it Strange- Dr Dog, I just love this sound, not to everyone’s taste.

So that’s it for today, I’ll be sure to do more in days to come.
