The Africa Thing. She winked at him.
Written by Jimmy
Folks, we are in very early stages with the Africa project. It is not a small child of an idea, nor a baby of an idea, or even an embryo of an idea. ‘They’ haven’t even slept together. But she winked at him tonight…
At this point, there are only five things you need to know about the Africa thing:
- A core group of the Abubilla Music gang are passionate about Africa. We didn’t come together about Africa, but it came up quickly as we discussed how we wanted to turn this thing into a good thing. We talked broadly about causes that inspired us and truly changed us. We all quickly agreed on Africa, specifically Kenya. And we knew the thing would be music and Kenya.
- We agreed we would only work on a project that was full owned by Kenyan and would remain long after we disappear. We searched and think we’ve found the perfect partner. We are in detailed discussions with them and hopefully can agree things soon. Don’t want to curse with details.
- The proposition currently being discussed is that we fund raise to purchase a mobile recording studio to travel throughout Kenyan villages to record traditional music of the villages, to identify emergin artists and record their songs or co-create songs and to help provide other medical support.
- We are targetting fund raising for June 2010 and will spend the Summer of 2011 creating a ‘Crazy Musical Caravan’ to travel throughout Kenya.
- We need help. If this floats your boat, please contact us. We need arms, legs, experience, fund raising ideas… I’m deliberately under-playing this to avoid cursing it, but this will be really, really, really cool. Right up there with Voices. And Ed’s Water Trick.
And, here are a few pictures I took on our trip to Kenya two years ago:
