This Week in the Studio: 10.07.24

Wasn’t meant to be a studio day – we were just doing a video for Immovable Thing, but we had a moment and Strange Clock was born. 

Three things happened:

1. We re-arranged the studio.  Not a big deal for you all, but massive fun for us.  We did not film it in stop motion, thank goodness, so only took 2 hours (Click here and press on the Studio clean up video).  But it is all clean and tidy for the race to get the third album, ‘If I Were a Little Birdie’ done by November.
2. We wrote Strange Clock.   We basically put to music a poem that Jimmy had written for his son Hunter the day after he was born.  It got put into a time capsule that Hunter only just opened as he approaches his 18th birthday.  We had all forgotten about it but decided it is not often lyrics are pulled up from the ground and handed to you.    Andy was on piano and drums, Ed on acoustic guitar and Sophie on cello.  Jimmy was on vocals which pretty much guarantees this will never be available to the general public.
3. We did a video shoot for Immovable Thing with Greg from clingfilms   this is what Sophe said about it:  ‘We played a very beautiful song in a back garden filled with Dog Poo, watching the atmospheric planes fly over head, which meant we couldn’t actually hear the track.  But I got thru it with no giggles.’  Ed said the following: ‘My fingers approached the sound barrier as we had to play the song at 1.5 times speed for some video effect.    It is also very hard not to look at the camera and look cool.  And I kept almost falling asleep.  Also the song is really slow in real time now.   Much prefer the faster version.”  Greg said: ‘He really is all about dodging dogs and their poo.  Toby  kept bringing me stones.  Quite a dumb dog really.”  Lou said:  ‘I didn’t really mind the planes but I also thought the poo should have been picked up. Jimmy, over to you…’  Jimmy said:  ‘I thought the poo added a good effect given the song is about constipation.’  Lou, ‘JImmy that really isn’t funny.’  Sign.
