A Visit from the Goon Squad: Top 5 R&R ‘Pauses’
Written by Jimmy
As many of you will have already discovered, there’s quite a good book out there called A Visit from the Goon Squad, by Jennifer Egan. I read it yesterday and a group of us decided to make a ‘relationshop map,’ but we were beaten to the punch by C.B. James. Here you go:
2. David Bowie, Young Americans: He claims Bowie chickens out on this one, saying he should have paused a whole 2 seconds after ‘breakdown and cry’ (4.19). Not sure Bowie can really be accused of being a chicken musically:
3. Long Train Running, Doobie Brothers: Apologies the video isn’t really there, but note the pause at 2.43-2.45; Lincoln does show some excitement that we’re talking about two whole seconds.
4. Roxanne, Police: It’s at 1.57-1.59:
5. An Horse, Rearranged Beds: First, I never heard of these guys, so thanks little Lincoln – they’re a Aussie duo of Kate Cooper and Damian Cox. Second, little Lincoln points out that you really think the songs going to end, and then after a couple seconds (3.40-3.42) they crash back in.
So, here’s to little Lincoln. There’s a posting of Alison Blake’s top 12 song pauses that is on line, recreating her Power Point chapter from the book and featuring all the songs. Alison Blake is Lincolns fictual sister: click here.
