This Week in the Studio: 23-25 September, 1 October

After a 8 week break, we re-opened the studio to record Tati. Read more….
Yes, it has been a while. We finished mixing and mastering King Henry’s Tears in July and agreed to close the studio for August and September. The band and Allen family needed a break and Jimmy and Andy needed to focus on the October 1 launch. But, we couldn’t help ourselves, having discovered Tati. So we opened for business again and over four studio days recorded her new album… Here’s her story:
1. 23 September: Jimmy was in LA, travelling with his bone guitar. But Andy and Rob opened the studio for Tati. First day, three songs: Because I’ve Got Breasts (renamed for filing purposes as BIG Breasts) started Tati’s time as a discovery artist. Rob joined on bass and shakers, while Tati played the Ukelele. This was followed by Barbie and I Love a Ginge. Andy and Rob had to get used to a day that included lyrics including vajazzle, minge, breast, trampolines, and a-hole bleaching. Yes, this isn’t your grandfather’s discovery artist!
2. 24-25 September: Jimmy took over recording with Rob on the Saturday and we recorded Wodwo, A Girl Like You, Fingertips, Tired Roar, Child of Fury, Let Me Be and Liberation. All very fast and efficient. The only slight difficulty was that Jimmy agreed that we would meet at noon with Rob and Tati, only for Rob to hear ‘nine.’ Jimmy was still on LA time but loved, absolutely love, hosting Rob at 9AM.
3. October 1: Before the “Launch Party“, we asked Tati to meet with band for some other overdubs. A new guitar for Tired Roar turned it into a little rock song. But we really enjoyed turning Child of Fury into a rousing pirate song. We’re pretty sure that was not entirely where she thought this would go, but we are estatic. We got to use a surdo drum! Always a plus. Hear the song as it was – before the pirates attacked!
And for no particular reason, here’s a video I’m currently liking:
