12.02.04 This Week in the Studio
Written by Andy Patterson
This week in the studio was dedicated to our 2012 fundraising song – a global remix of ‘Missing’ – the track from the album ‘Misery Marmalade and Other Spanish Jams’ . You remember we did this same things with 71 Hours to Monday:
We’d re-recorded bits of it before going down to Africa in December, and it now also sports some vocals from Winyo, and some of the Batwa musicians that we recorded in both Uganda and Nairobi.
So, on Saturday we added some sax, courtesy of our new addition Jesus Duque.
While Greg hid behind the keyboard filming him play for the accompanying video:
Jimmy then left for China to investigate toilets. Hannah added some vocals and after some pizza, Mike went crazy on the percussion again adding some texture. Rob added some gravitas to a bass line contributed by Etienne (a.k.a. Bishop) when we were in Africa, and then Chris took a turn adding some vocals.
There’s no rough mixes of this one as of yet, as we’re keeping it in the bag until we’re ready to make it public.
While we had been recording in the studio, Chris and Jesus had been in the front room creating. Although Jesus had to depart, Chris, Rob and Mike played a rough version of the song they had written. Here’s a picture of them in action:
The song was given a working title of ‘Snow Song’. Which is appropriate, as after recording this, we left sharpish to make sure we weren’t caught in the snow as we left the studio.
Until next time
