12.03.24 This Week in the Studio

The Music

Focused the morning on Missing, Global Remix, adding some horns in the Chorus’s, but other wise turning it over to Andy for some final editing.

We then moved on to Chris’s Siren Song, with Chris on lead vocals, guitar, Rob on Acoustic Bass, Mike on Drums, Ed on Trumpet and Jesus coming in out of no where with some magic backing vocals.

We moved on to Chris’s Be Nice to Me, but struggled – trying punk, moving to summer happy and crashing into an afternoon carb coma.  So we called it a day.

Everything Else

Five fast things:

We welcomed back Ed to the studio.  He immediately took control (again) and you can hear his wonderful commands throughout Chris’s Siren Song.  He has not lost his knack of using the ‘keep rolling’ sign to mean ‘cut’, but we’re charging fines and we should get this out of him.

Mike has now pointed out to all of us that his term for ‘ready’ when we move to record means he’s ‘ready to do about 8 takes on the song before he gets it right.’

Rob continues ‘bad smell’ faces to signal when he’s not happy with a take.

Wonderful sunny day, with the band finding it very difficult to retreat back to the dark studio for afternoon recording.  Mike played the ‘dead dog’ card, which we’ll explain at some point, but a very useful card to use to stay in the sun.

Today was broken string day, with Andy wiping out two strings on the Tenor Guitar and Charlie breaking three strings on his acoustic.  Resulted in a switch to electric guitars for one of Chris’s songs and a small detour into punk.   Best to bring extra strings and stay acoustic.

Sophe arrived, shouted, told us to cut her cello part out of Missing and left.
