14 days till Christmas!

When is it okay to start dancing around and singing to Christmas songs? Because it is deemed socially acceptable from about December 1st to put up decorations (and much to my dismay: in my house, we still don’t have our tree up!) So, despite the seriously lacking festive cheer in my house, Saturday, when I had friends over, pretty much all we did was sing some Christmas classics at the top of our voices…
Christmas songs always confuse me, because year after year after year it is the same seven or so that continue to play throughout shops, on television, radio, etc. When does a Christmas song join these very prestigious ranks? Is it immediately after the song comes out or does it join a few years later? Will Mistletoe by Justin Bieber still be the next generation of Christmas classics and still be playing by the time I am 50 years old?
