2012.02.18: This Week in the Studio
Written by Jimmy
It was hard not to be distracted today by Ollie the Cow Celebrations…
We’ve been pulling together the latest ‘Global Remix’ – this time a global version of The Only Thing That’s Missing. The new journey started with a Mike extravaganza in London, re-doing the basic structure with new percussion. We then went to Nairobi to add vocals from Winyo and Nina and guitars from Bishop and John. We brought all this back to London and added Cello and vocals from Chris and Hannah. Today, we brought Camilla back from the Opera to add some backing vocals. The highlight of the session had to be Camilla apologising for not quite being able to put her Italian opera line directly over a melody from the Batwa. We are relatively confident that this is the first moment in studio history where an opera singer has tried to line up her vocal with a Batwa community from Kisoro, Uganda. We will ask our new Abubilla Assistant, Jesus, to do a search to see if this has happened before.
Some pictures:
1. Camilla Pounding Herself When She messed up one more Italian Link with Batwa:
2. Camilla Listening to her missing the mark between Italian and Batwa:
3. Camilla Smiling as Best She Can during take 437.
We are now heading back to Nairobi in early March for further recording on the Choruses. While were waiting for the final release, please enjoy a couple songs:
1. Missing will close with the Batwa singing – the two leads are Frances and Jovah. Here’s Frances with a song he did with Jessie
2. And Heres Jovah with a song she did with Winyo
3. And let’s Revisit our global remix for 71 Hours to Monday:
You can visit more of our songs on the Year in Review at Singing Wells….
