A Bird’s Eye View of Undying Love

Written by

We liked this one.  A little article in Saturday’s Times about Wotton-under-Edge, where a farmer planted a beautiful heart shape in memory of his wife.   The Times quotes Winston Howes, now 70:  “I came up with the idea of creating a heart in the clearing of the field after Janet died.  It was a flash of inspiration and I planted several thousand oak trees.  Once it was completed we put a seat in the field overlooking the hill near where she used to live.”

On Valentine’s Day, I tend to get around to ordering a dozen flowers.   A thousand trees?   I need improvement.

While I ponder on various paths to enlightenment, I can at least offer three nice love songs:

3.    I Can’t Make you Love Me, Bonnie Raitt (nice cover by Bon Iver):

2.  You Do Something to Me, Paul Weller (live on Jools):

1.  Into My Arms, Nick Cave (the greatest love song from the most unlikely source – nice live version from the song-writer’s circle):
