Abubilla Live: Report Back from the Half Moon
Written by Jimmy
Andy opened with Photographs, then sang his cover of Huey Lewis, Power of Love, and closed with his acoustic version of 71 Hours to Monday, from SMCC’s second and fourth album. We included sound cloud versions of these songs from the Leon blog if you want to hear (click here) but here’s a nice shot of Andy openning the day:
Andy then introduced our discovery artists, Tati Kalveks and Chris Kozlowski. Tati sang four songs from her second album (to be released in Autumn 2012): He Likes Boys, I’m not Gay, My Last Taboo and Miss-Representation. Here’s a couple shots of Tati on ‘keys’ singing He Likes Boys:
Here’s Miss-Representation ‘live at the Half Moon’:
And because the Kalvek’s Klan remains the fastest fingers to Youtube, here are a couple vids of Tati on Sunday night. We promise Greg, our videographer, will post additional videos, but he’s doesn’t work at Kalveks speed. First is a new song, My Last Taboo, followed by He Likes Boys:
Chris followed with three songs from his upcoming Discovery Album: Cut My Hair, Walk Away and We’re Not Working. Here’s a couple shots of Chris:
And here’s, what Helen (our amazing photographer) calls an ‘arty shot’ of Chris (I just refer to it as out of focus!):
Here’s Chris’s We’re Not Working, Live at the Half Moon:
Rob then joined Andy for Breathe, from the fourth SMCC Album, King Henry’s Tears and Tuesday in May.
And Martyn joins them for Tuesday in May:
To close the first set, Chris joined Rob with Jesus and sang their version of Jerusalem/Swing Low. By general consensus, Jesus stole the show with a great shaker and Bvox. Here’s the song, Jerusalem, live ath the Half Moon, featuring Jesus! The laughter half way through is Jesus breaking his shaker and switching to tamberine! I’ve always wanted to say the line: “The crowd is only laughing because Jesus broke his shaker mid-way through Jerusalem.” Thank you. Unbelievably, our incredible photographer Helen (did I mention her already?), captures the broken shaker moment:
Here’s Jersusalem, Live at the Half Moon:
That was it for the first set. We funneled out of the room, the smokers smoked and the drinkers weed, the talkers talked and the musicians mostly gathered around Jesus and re-lived ‘the shaker incident in Jerusalem.’
Set Two: Louder.
Louise and Ed kicked off the second set with Market Town, a very slow, very sad song:
Here’s Market Town, live at the Half Moon:
This was followed by the band in various shapes and incarnations blasting through a set of SMCC Songs, and songs from Tati’s Album Graceless and Chris’s upcoming Discovery Album. Lou, Sophie and Ed performed Immovable Thing:
And Mike chills on drums:
Here’s Immovable Thing, Live at the Half Moon, featuring Louise, Ed and Sophie:
This was followed by Chris performing Play with my Mind and 18 Years. Here’s a live take of Chris’s Play with My Mind, Live at the Half Moon:
Here is 18 Years, Live At the Half Moon:
This was followed by Tati’s Call Me, Live at the Half Moon (from her new album coming out this Autumn):
Martyn Joined Tati on Call me with some wick Harp – we were all very surprised. Not least of which Tati!
We then had a string of SMCC Songs, including 500 Letters, Live from the Half Moon and Chamberlain in Munich, Live at the Half Moon, both with Lou’s lead vocals.
And here’s the backing band for 500 Letters…
The band then launched into a cover, with Tati leading us through Teenage Dirtbag, Live at the Half Moon:
Here’s a shot of the Band playing Teenage Dirt Bag:
After that cover, we closed the night with Sweet Home Chicago, live at the Half Moon:
We then have lots of photos of smiling folks:
We had one encore, the rather obligatory, King Henry’s Tears, with Mike playing drums on the ‘Spinal Tap Lamp’ (named after the famous Spinal Tap scene when the ‘Stonehenge’ is lowered on stage, only to be 1/12 the size they expected. They had ordered in inches not feet. Andy got a great ‘deal’ on a Moroccan lamp for mike that was roughly 1/4 what was expected). Here’s King Henry’s Tears, Live at the Half Moon:
