Happy Birthday Eric!

Eric Clapton is 67 today, born 5 weeks before VE Day in 1945.     There are 7 facts about Eric:

  • He is the only three time inductee in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – as a solo artist, with Cream and with the Yardbirds.  Here’s For Your Love by the Yardbirds and Sunshine of My Love by Cream (for guys my age this riff is the equivalent of my son’s love of 7 Nation Army’s Riff):

  • George Harrison wrote Here Comes the Sun on Clapton’s porch after a sleepover.  Do you describe evenings with two rock and roll stars as ‘sleep overs?’

  • Clapton played the guitar on Harrison’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

  • The two both dated Pattie Boyd, who is partially responsible therefore to three songs dedicated to her:  Layla, Wonderful Tonight and Something.

  • Folks credit Clapton for making Reggae big in the US market after his version of I Shot the Sheriff.   Here’s Marley’s version:

  • Clapton was raised by his Grandparents (well real grandma and step grand-dad) believing for most his youth his mother was his sister (and we think John Lennon had ‘Mother’ issues!)

  • He spend a lot of his youth busking around Kingston and Richmond, home of Abubilla Music.  Here’s Chris’s latest video:

Happy Birthday!
