March 2: Lou Reed is 70 today. The King of very, very cool.
Written by Jimmy
Boy, there are certain birthdays that make you feel old. Not mine, mind, but others – that Lou Reed is 70 makes me feel very, very old because Lou Reed being very young and very hip and very cool was very much part of my self image of being very young, and very him and very cool. I never was. He clearly was. And we all know why:
This was always part of the Freshman year Top 5 that immediately established your music credibility; the others were: Moondance, Jammin, Money, Just What I Needed and Watching the Detectives. The fact that all of us had the same five demonstrated perfectly that in our quest to be frighteningly individual we were lemmings jumping off the music cliffs.
I also love Perfect Day, simply because if Lou Reed could decide to have a good day, than I was allowed one as well. Even Mr Grumpy could have a perfect day. So happy birthday Mr. Reed.
