Music for a celebration – The Diamond Jubilee

Written by

This weekend sees the Diamond Jubliee celebrations for HRH Elizabeth II. 60 years in one job isn’t bad by anyone’s standards – Congratulations to her Royal Highness, and here’s to the next 60 years!

The event is being marked musically by a huge concert outside Buckingham Palace on Monday – the tickets for which were available through a ballot run by the BBC last year.

So, if you don’t have tickets to the gig (unlike our own Andy, who will be there), then why not check out our selection of songs to celebrate the Jubliee!

First up is ‘Sing’ – this is the the official song written by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber, as a gift to the Queen. Friend of Abubilla –  Ayub Ogada (features on  71 Hours to Monday and plays a part in the video) plays on the track and appears in the video.

Next up is Kool and the Gang – Celebration. A party classic!

Dancing Queen – from ABBA – imagine her maj dancing around the floor of Buck pal to this one!

If you’ve ever listened to the Beatles’ Abbey Road album (which I’d recommend you do so, if you haven’t already) and have let it play on after ‘The End’ then you’ll have heard this song ‘Her Majesty’, which Paul McCartney got the chance to play at the Jubilee concert in 2002.

Finally, we couldn’t have a playlist for The Queen, and not include God Save the Queen – here is Brian May’s (appropriately from ‘Queen’) version of God Save The Queen – live from the roof of Buckingham Palace at the concert to celebrate the Gold Jubilee 10 years ago in 2002.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
