TV Shows I Try To Watch

Written by

Recently I’ve been watching a lot of telly as I attempt not to vomit everywhere.

The Vicar Of Dibley

The fabulous Dawn French plays a happy, if lonely and not very fussy about men (I suppose if the J-man is your main guy everyone else is bound to pale in comparison), vicar who toddles about in a little country village solving dilemmas, as we urban folk stare and cackle smugly as we joyfully think of our functioning bowels and the lack of cows we must tend to. I had to stop watching this because I kept crying through all the episodes. And not out of emotion, just because I really want to live in Rose Cottage and I’m sadly aware it’s just a film set.

Glee

I’m really mad they didn’t set Santana up to do anything super awesome after graduating to match how super awesome she is. I hope this means they’ll be keeping her in the program, as otherwise I will not be able to watch it. Many people are very snarky about Glee. They usually have not watched it, or ever experienced joy. My ultimate complaint about it would be the auto-tuning thing. If they’re good enough singers to get on the show, they should be able to sing in tune. Heck, I’m sure they can! Auto-tune makes the show-choir sound like a keyboard with effects.

Also apparently Glenn Beck likes Glee but doesn’t like that they promote a gay-inclusive society, and he’s planning to produce his own totally straight broadway musical. You give that a try, Glenn Beck. Do your very best.

Jam & Jerusalem

I started watching this one round around the time that The Vicar of Dibley became too much for me. In the first ten minutes of the episode, someone dies. Great for entertainment, not so great for my facial area, as all the weeping makes my skin dry and my eyes feel really salty.

Mad Men

I keep trying to get back into Mad Men – I’ve not even finished the first season yet. Jon Hamm is fabulous; I can’t quite explain why I don’t fancy him though, and while this is good (as Don Draper is a bit of a poop), it means I can’t pay attention. I need more Joan. Give me more Joan and I will get back to it.

Doctor Who

I’m still mourning the departure of David Tennant, and always a little bit bored by Matt Smith’s doctor, who isn’t half as interesting, but I am still waiting for Doctor Who to come back. It’s been ages. Unless I totally missed the latest series, but I don’t think I could have without my mum taping it all and posting it to me.

I am also still reading The Pursuit of Love. It is still excellent. Next, Night & Day by Virginia Woolf.
