A New Year. A New Studio. We’ll call it ‘The Bridge.’
The Music
Andy, Rob, Ed, Martyn and Mike got together for the first jam at ‘The Bridge.’ We’ll call the song ‘The Bridge’ for now because we lack imagination. Mike had a cool drum riff and Ed a nice guitar riff and they jammed and created a good little start of a song. Their comments on the new studio:
- Rob: Dusty and it has mice. But don’t worry, I have a rat zapper. [In turns out when you build a studio, Rob has everything you need]
- Ed: Where can we stack our guitar cases?
- Mike: Thanks for letting me hang fairy lights.
- Martyn: Where are the legs of the desk I brought? I put them in a bin bag into the trash room the day before trash removal and now I can’t find them.
Musicians.
Everything Else
This has been a very busy time for us but we haven’t created a lot of music. Over the Christmas break we moved our studios from Richmond to Hammersmith. We’ll provide a fuller updaet, but this has involved:
- Clearing out the ‘home studio’. We managed to stuff a ridiculous amount of kit into a very small room. To be specific, we filled a 1995 Previa three times (we mention the year, because this class of Previa has a boat load of room for moving studio stuff) and a ‘two men in a van.’
- Building a new studio and painting it. This involved a lot of professionals and volunteers. Special thanks to Mike, Henry, Barney, Hunter, Vicki, Kathy, Andy, Martyn, Rob, Olivia, Jodie, Morgan, Flea and Fadi who all sanded and painted and filled their faces with white paint dots.
- Kitting it out, which involves all sorts of new nifty equipment which we’ll outline in later blogs. We now have a live studio room/rehearsal room, a control room, an isolation booth (installed later this week), a video/photograpy studio, and an office. Our toilet was installed yesterday and our first mouse was ‘zapped’ Friday evening, so it might even be livable and cosy at some point.
More on all this later. For now, Happy New Year to all of you from Abubilla Music/Singing Wells and we hope you’re New Year started with your own shiny and new surprises.
