13.05.18 This Week in the Studio
Written by Jimmy
A very full day at the studio with Mike, Rob, Martyn, Andy, Olivia, Gus, Alex, Grace, Morgan, Jonny and Jimmy.
The Music
- Chamberlain in Munich: Mike added the Cajon and Andy prided himself on his mic placement. His quote was ‘three years of University created that separation.’ Nice. Rob was sufficiently motivated to redo his bass part from yesterday (are we going in circles here?), which prompted Andy do redo his guitar. Everyone remains happy with Lou’s vocals at least. We love the sound of Rob’s acoustic bass, but Andy noted again, it was partially due to ‘smart micing.’ Andy then redid guitars and Mike his backing vocals. Matyn then jumped in for a little harp We called it a wrap. Here’s Andy re-doing his guitar:
And Mike Re-doing the Cajon:
- 500 Letters from NYC: We redid this as well after the Spanish Jam and used the day to re-do Rob’s bass and Andy and Mike’s backing vocals. Here’s Mike, banned to the corner of the isolation booth shouting ‘5, 5,5’
- Gus’s New Song: Gus and his brother than joined us and we did a new song with Gus. Lots of rehearsal in the main studio and then we brought everyone into the isolation booth for a live take Mike on drums, Gus on Guitar, Martyn on guitar, Rob on Bass. Lots of Fun.
Everything Else
- We hung Vicky’s Africa posters! Olivia was in charge and her maths left a few questions… and raised some alarm bells about her econ A levels.
That’s it.
