Party like a 1 year old!

Written by

I felt the need to write about this because not only has it got me slightly interested in a new culture…I am now worrying that I haven’t planned my 18th.

So on Sunday I helped my auntie who is a party entertainer for kids. Usually its around 10 – 25 kids max. I was already confused when she told me in the car that the party was for a one year old boy!

So we arrived and even on my first step into the room I was mind blown. It was a marquee with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling (yep more than one!) About 20 round tables fully decorated with sundae cups full of green, blue , yellow and white jelly beans, each with a cup cake within the colour scheme fitted on the top. The whole place was colour coded. There was a ‘candy corner’ with only green and blue sweets (I thoroughly enjoyed this aspect) EVEN THE SANDWICHES HAD BLUE INSIDE. I didn’t ask what it was…

There was a buffet, a camera man, a video recorder , a colour coded cake, you name it.

We then realised we had no room for the party due to all the perfectly placed tables so we asked the lady, “how many children?” and she kinda looked sheepish as she said “forty?”

FORTY. This space we had was about the size of a toilet cubicle it was so small!

Luckily…only a few showed up in the time we were there and they were all cousins of the one year old aged around 8 or 9…so we didn’t feel too out of place in our leggings and hoodies at this “ball”.

Despite ALL the effort that had clearly gone into this beautiful party (that had been in planning since August!?) …the 1 year old slept through the entire thing.

I definitely learned that Sri Lankens go for it for their 1st birthdays. I would be very happy if that was my prom or 18th!
