Skiing experiences
Written by Jodie Bryant
It’s one of those typical ‘family stories’ that only becomes funny about 2 weeks later …but I wanted to share just to establish the TRAUMA I went through last week on my family ski holiday
The regular version I’m telling people involves voice impressions and actions but obviously that’s not possible here so I’ll do my best …
It’s the end of the skiing day, in our case our first day of the holiday and the lifts are all going to close within the next 20 minutes, time to go home
So my dad, Jason, leads the way down the only route (that he’s aware of) back to where we need to go
We see a huge ‘RUN CLOSED’ sign
Jason: “come on guys it’ll be fine!”
(family proceed skiing down to the chairlift)
We arrive at a deserted chairlift, it’s very cold and getting dark…great! So we all laugh at my dad for being wrong and carry on skiing downwards thinking all will be well
We then find ourselves in 3ft deep snow amongst a selection of boulders and trees; fun! – time to take OFF our skis and trek up the mountain in the 3ft deep snow. By this time all humour is lost and my three younger brothers are struggling up the mountain
My dad eventually calls for help and it was very embarrassing to be found by an angry french mountain rescue man on a snowmobile!
It gets worse- the 2 youngest brothers get to sit on the snowmobile and have a ride while me, my other brother, my mum and my dad get told to put our ski poles through some rope and hold on…like a jet ski. Sounds fun right!?
So finally we get to leave the deserted mountain and the rope starts crushing mine and Elliot’s fingers (I’m talking on the verge of breaking them here) aaand I let go in agony, now clinging to my mums jacket for dear life …
I gave up and let go falling into the box splits, which 1-I can’t do 2-I was in ski trousers and 3- ski boots don’t really let your legs twist
I fell and twisted my knee resulting in the strange french man driving off with my two brothers and a big family ‘discussion’ let’s say…
What a great end to the first day! Luckily the man came back and took us up two at a time.
As for my knee, i couldn’t ski for one day but after that I had a lovely little knee support for the rest of the holiday
yay…gotta love family!
