Brit Awards 2014
Written by oliviawallwork
So this year the 2014 Brit Awards were held on the 19th February and in total twelve awards were given to the winners which included acts such as David Bowie, the Arctic Monkeys and Bastille.
The Arctic Monkeys picked up an award for Best British Group and did a live performance on the night. Their latest album ‘AM’ also won them the award for Best Album of the Year.
Lead singer, Alex Turner, caused some controversy after a rather interesting acceptance speech he made when the band collected their second Brit award of the night. In what appeared to have been a drunken and sluggish state, he stated that “rock ‘n’ roll will never die” and in true rock ‘n’ roll fashion he dropped the microphone on the stage after saying “invoice me for the microphone if you need to”. Here in the Abubilla music studio, we are all of the opinion that his display was absolutely not cool but was actually very cringe-worthy. We’ll give him some points for effort though.
67 year old David Bowie won the Best Male Solo Artist award for his latest album ‘The Next Day’ which was released in March last year- 10 years after his previous album ‘Reality’.
Other winners included Bruno Mars whose performance of his song ‘Treasure’ with his band was incredible! Lorde, Rudimental, Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Sam Smith, Daft Punk and new British act Bastille also picked up awards. Producers, Flood and Alan Moulder won the award for Best Producer.
Despite performances from major international singers such as Beyoncé and Katy Perry, ratings were the lowest they’ve been for 15 years, so we’re guessing that next year they’re going to have to try something different. Anyway, we look forward to seeing someone new host the event next year as James Cordon has been the host five times now- possibly a reason why the viewings were so low?
