My Top 10 Songs for Summer 2014!

Written by

Hi everyone!

Now that school’s finished and the summer holidays have begun for many, I thought it would be a great idea to make a summer playlist of some hit songs that I feel everyone should be listening to- whether it be at a BBQ, picnic, or if hosting a casual evening in with friends.

So, first of all:

1. Nobody to Love – Sigma

This song is a great spin on Kanye West’s infamous ‘Bound 2’, with a drum and bass flair it’s sure to get you pumped up.

2. Somebody to Love – Rusko (Sigma remix)

Another song with a Sigma twist, it’s maybe more suited to the younger audiences though!

3. Babylon – Sza (ft. Kendrick Lamar)

A less up-tempo song with some identifiable dubstep influences accompanied by Sza’s interesting voice. Definitely a song to sit back and listen to on a hot summer’s day. Kendrick thought the original was so good that he asked her to be featured on it, (check out the other version below).

4. Restart – Sam Smith

I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Sam Smith’s voice which is just beautiful! ‘Restart’ is a feel-good tune that you can’t help but want to get up and dance to. The percussion in the background just tops it all off. I love how this song is quite different to his usual songs (such as ‘Lay Me Down’ and ‘Make It To Me’) which are more melancholic.

5. Dangerous Love – Fuse ODG ft. Sean Paul

Fuse ODG’s latest song with Sean Paul is sooooooo good and the combination of African and Carribean elements make it fun. It gives me a burst of energy and makes me smile every time I hear it! This video below encompasses everything this song is:

6. Touchin’, Lovin – Trey Songz ft. Nicki Minaj

This song comes straight off Trey Songz’s recently released album ‘Trigga’ and features the Queen of Hip-Hop- Nicki Minaj. Inspired by a Notorious B.I.G song, it’s great for a party setting.

7. Loyal – Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne & French Montana

Another party favourite, this song is a sure-fire way of getting everyone up and dancing. Although there are quite a few versions of this song featuring various rappers (including Tyga), one thing I’m certain of is that Chris Brown is BACK…it just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t include a picture of him, would it? Let’s just hope he stays out of trouble.

8. 2 On – Tinashe

The first time I heard this song I thought it would be big, and it is. Tinashe’s a new artist, but this song featuring Schoolboy Q sounds like it came from someone with decades of experience. She’s definitely one to watch.

9. Wiggle – Jason Derulo ft. Snoop Dogg

THE BASS! THE BEAT! What’s not to love? Also, it was nice to see the more playful side of Derulo in this video.

10. Thru – Mizan

And last but not least. This is what I’d call the perfect song to which you can relax and chill to. The mellow beat and soothing voice make ‘Thru’ almost mesmerising. Mizan, originally from East Africa, is definitely an artist I’m going to be keeping a close eye on in the upcoming year.

I hope you’ll enjoy listening to these as much as I do.
