World Cup 2014 – Número um
Written by Ogechi Umezuruike
So, as the World Cup ended last Sunday, I thought it would be a good idea to revive that football spirit by putting together a World Cup playlist which will feature the current No.1 songs by all the countries which played in the World Cup games this year.
However, once I began this, I realised just how big a feat this would be to accomplish. So, as a compromise, I’ve decided to make a playlist for each of the groups.
(P.S. You’ll be learning how to spell numbers 1 through to 8 in Portuguese by the end of these posts)
In Group A, we have Brazil, Mexico, Croatia and Cameroon!
So, the Brazilian no.1 is by Brazilian singer Anitta and it’s call ‘Bla Bla Bla’. It’s very catchy and has all the elements of your typical pop song.
For Mexico, it’s ‘Bailando’ by the very handsome Enrique Iglesias featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente De Zona. I love how the video shows off the Spanish culture.
Croatia’s number one single right now, is very different to the others, less pop and more rock. It’s by Quasarr ft. Josipa Lisac and called ‘Ljubav’.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find an official number one single for Cameroon, but a popular song at the moment is ‘CASH’ by Jovi. Jovi is a young up and coming Cameroonian artist who’s had previous records that have received lots of airplay on Cameroonian radio.
