The Best ‘Ad Libbed’ Best Lines in Movies
Written by Jimmy
God Bless the Internet. Conversation with kids on Friday Night about movie lines that are now classic but were ad-libbed at the time. We thought – someone should make a list. And, of course, 100’s had a made a list. Here are our top 5, heavily borrowed and stolen from all those lists:
1. Indiana Jones shoots the sword man: The script was a massive hand to hand battle spilling through the souks. A combination of Harrison Ford being ill and feeling his character wouldn’t ever fight a man hand to hand if he had a gun, led to this perfect scene:
2. Here’s Looking At You Kid: one of the most classic endings of one of the most classic films. Never in the script. Apparently, between scenes, Humphery was teaching Ingrid (have we ever had a cooler couple to emerge from such un-cool names?) to play poker and used this line quite often. Through it in on the day.
3. You’re Going to Need a Bigger Boat: From Jaws. They’ve seen the shark. Big Shark. Small Boat. I pulled the clip off you tube. I usually had the ‘comments’ section of you tube – too many sad trowls. But one line struck me: “20 seconds. 6 words. And still better than the Twilight Trilogy.” I hate the Twilight Triology for one reason. I was hooked on the Draw Something game for a while and finally got chased offline after one person starting drawing wolves and vampires for what was Twilight. I had no idea and we lost. And she attacked me. Viciously. I stopped playing. And hate the trilogy. Which I had never heard of. Morgan Explained. She likes 1D, which somehow in proxy world means she knows about the trilogy.
2. My Wife used to fart in her sleep. One of the most amazing scenes in Good Will Hunting. Probably my favourite moment on film with Robin Williams. All ad lib and I think the best definition ever recorded: love is having your wife wake herself by the sound of her own farts and turn to you and acuse you of the crime. And you confess it was indeed you. Love.
1. Blade Runner. Tears in the Rain: most of thiis is unscripted. And one of the most amazing moments on film. The adroids are from 2019, so we are going to have to make a lot of progress not only on robotics, but poetry to meet the deadline:
And here’s a selected group of the full lists:
1. Top 10 from Den of Geek. Includes video clips and very good write ups… List includes, ‘You Talkin’ to Me’ (Taxi Driver), ‘Here’s Johnny’ (The Shining), Indiana Jones Gun vs. Sword, Raiders of the Lost Ark;
2. 25 Unscripted Scenes: A Nice Video Montage, includes the ‘Farting Wife’ scene from Good Will Hunter, which I stole…
