The knife will come … In (film -making) retrospect!

Written by

OK so … As you may know it started with an Internet post looking for a film-maker to come on board the Abubilla community !… to cut a long story short …(you may of read the emotional blog from moi recording the first Abubilla encounter!?) this resulted in the making of the music video….”The Knife will come”. Overall a month of blood, sweat tears and alot of fun!
The concept (treatment) was developed in December 09 and ok’d by the band over pizza, commencing pre-production through to January 24th, shooting the video at Camberwell Studios on January 25th.
When working on the basis of pulling in crew, friends and at the time unknown future collaborators the excitement grew.  A day dream, an idea taking shape…its a good feeling!  Where theres a will there’s a way and nothing is insomountable (to any film-maker enthusiasts out there!)
It helps to have full reins to express an idea for sure, which Abubilla gave me for their first official music vid (The knife will come) which i hope you guys have viewed!…and enjoyed?
As new-comer to Abubilla I admit it has taken a while to really chill out and not treat the project as a film job but as a work in progress, experimental, free way of thinking, developing Film/Art.   Jammin’…coming together, experimenting with song, lyrics, humour and taking the piss seems to be a core of what we represent and I agree the final out come of the video may of been a little pretentious!

Like any creative piece of work, you live, breath, or drink lots of coffee for the hope that your idea will take form, for it to follow your original vision etc.blah blah.  I learnt alot on this Video. To pull in crew, freebies, to work as a team… of course ones’ vision is compromised during this. The key, despite some alterations, is to communicate, to be Austrian in your planning! To have a plan B, but most of all to allow the project to be fun , to learn, grow and accept things beyond your control. I had a choice to work on commercial projects, to function in a 9-5 job as a director but Im proud to say the full-fillment of low no budget ..dare i say –guerilla film making- is more satisfiying! Well… “7 steps to making a music video under a grand”  follows this blog alongside the beginning of Abubilla’s film-making society where one can choose to vent their frustration, their joy, pride, questions, projects, to network or come on board the visual representation of Abubilla in any aspect of film..note:any fave films or visual reccomendations wellcome! I guess this blog is to touch base, to realise we are all human, all wanting to belong, to find fellow artists/musicians and have a laugh during the process.
The knife will come (I admit) has great production values and possibly way too much commercial substance and like most Ive learnt alot and know the next video will focus the Abubilla group, it’s personality and hopefully expose those camera shy band members to exploit their personalities (and abnormal big knees!)
Watch this space for an un-pretentious BIG KNEES viral!!!!!
