What’s ‘Bugging’ Me
Written by Jodie Bryant
Getting into the Abubilla mindset, I’ve realised that finding artists and linking their sound to another artist can help find other artists. Bit of a revelation because today I am thinking that Jake Bugg sounds like a bit of a cross between Gus Warriner (the deep husky voice) and a new artist I found for the voices page, ‘Banditas’(the country twist). But he’s also very individual.
Jake Bugg is definitely a one to watch in 2013 and on listening to some Abubilla music, I feel that he should definitely be featured. Plus, I really enjoy listening to him. Jake is only 18 years old has already achieved a decent amount in his music career. He was given the position of 9th for best albums/tracks in 2012 in NME. He’s barely old enough to start drinking (legally) but his songs are so advanced that if you didn’t know what he looked like, you’d think he was a mature, singing for years without recognition kinda artist. The fact is hi career kicked off with his album simply called ‘Jake Bugg’. He has a country-ish aspect to his music as well as taking huge inspiration from the likes of The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
Within a short time of sending his record to the BBC, Jake was invited to play at Glastonbury aged 17! He then played as a support act for the likes of Lana Del Ray. After that it all kicked off with his debut single, Lighting Bolt.
