I saw this band live a couple of years or so ago at The Basement Door in Richmond. Not a massive fan of alt-rock, I was actually there to see my friend, Hannah Dorman play and was slightly skeptical about whether I’d enjoy one of the other acts, FranKo. However, when this four piece from South London took to the stage, I was sure I recognised the lead vocalist Tom Bastow… if the name doesn’t ring a bell, then maybe if I tell you his character name (as I later found out) was Dave the Laugh…
Yes, the lead singer in FranKo appeared in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging… not very rock ‘n’ roll…
But their performance that night was really great (and quite rocky) and actually made me appreciate a genre I’d never really considered before…
So I’d thought I’d bring a bit of alt-rock into your playlists this year from a band you may not have come across.
