Voices – Buenos Aires – Matias

Okay, so this was very painful and difficult for me… But here goes a very unfair “top 5(?)” and a very brief explanation of “what???”:
1. Dillinger Escape Plan:
One of my favorite bands ever. Math-core straight to the spine; very technical and noisy (few people get to the point of appreciating this… It’s easy to say “oh this is just noise”, but if you got to see the skills of each individual and the band as a whole, it’s amazing… I cannot even follow some of their rythmics). Oh, and I had the chance to see them live in NYC, for a 100 people crowd, in a show that included the singer jumping and walking over the audience; the guitar players walking over the audience while playing; one guitar destroyal against the floor and “that kind of stuff” (which is why I’m including a live video).
2. Fantômas:
Experimental metal is like avant-garde, with more distortion; and if the band consists of Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, Lovage, etc.) even better. And if the drummer is Dave Lombardo (Slayer) even better. And if the guitar player is from Melvins, and the bassist from Mr Bungle… Okay…
3. Explosions in the Sky:
One of my favorite bands ever. This guys create so different ambients and moods… It’s amazing… But you have to pay attention to the music and focus on what’s going on.
4. Patricio Rey y los Redonditos de Ricota (aka Los Redondos):
At first, I was kind of reluctant to listening to this… But at the end I got to really appreciate it. This is one of the most popular, significant bands that Argentina ever had.
5. “Il Barbiere di Seviglia”:
Well, I like operas, and this is a really really nice “opera buffa” (comic opera), and this is one of the most popular pieces. Just wanted to include it for diversity.
