Song of the Moment: In Love
Written by The Saturday Morning Canasta Club
Welcome to ‘the Moment’ series, where we highlight songs, artists, videos and blogs that for the moment, sorta strike our fancy. Our song, for now, is In Love. Learn more.
First, you should be listening to this as we go. So click here and we’ll set up a separate listening window as you go and the press play.
Second, let’s give you the facts:
- In Love was written by Gus, our wonderkind 2010 Scholar. We worked on it in the studio over 3 weeks in March 2010, across three sessions (read thru Session 1, Session 2, and Session 3. Gus, who was recommended by Morgan’s friend Gracie (Gus’s cousin), arrived on a Tuesday evening and played this song on acoustic – he didn’t have a name for it and it occilated between In Love and Thru Love during it’s short life.
- Gus plays acoustic and then actually left it to the band. We wanted to demonstrate that we could add value to said wonderkind’s output, so we worked hard. Mike (drums), Rob (Bass), Martyn/Ed (Guitars) deliver the usual band performance but stand out mentions go to Andy on Hammond Organ, Ed on Trumpets (that’s his riff) and Mike on Congas. Plus Martyn’s great guitar solo. We wanted to give this to become the song of the Summer and we think we got there. Definitely need to have this on the iPod when strollin’ on the beach.
- Mike counts us in… we blow it and counts us in again. Gus takes the lead vox singing over Rob’s bass! And then you hit the Chorus, with Gus’s Wow Waya Ohm. Then in comes Andy’s Organ, Martyn’s Guitar solo and the Trumpet riff … you should have frozen drink in hand and be dancing in the sand. Andy and Gus share bvox in the outro as we end with a single cymbal and Gus’s ‘And I found it In Love’. It does sound a bit like a softer version of Two Princes, which is a great thing.
4. For a long time with thought Gus was singing about a little spider. It’s a ‘little spite and’. Oh well. Here are lyrics:
Verse 1
It’s all about the knowing all about the showing, in we go go go
It’s all about the knowing all about the showing, in we go go go
You’ve shown your face just to pick up the pace and we’re going slow
You’ve shown your face just to pick up the pace and we’re going slow
Chorus
I’ve found my way to fly to look inside
To hop to skip to be part of the ride
And I found it in love
Oh in… oh
And oh in… oh
And oh in… oh
Love
Verse 2
She’s my princess I’m her clown
She makes me smile when she’s around
And it’s OK, alright up in the air
With an upset night a little spite and we’re fighting
It’s an upset night a little spite and we’re fighting
Chorus
5. This song is the 5th Song on Misery Marmalade and Other Spanish Jams, the second album of Saturday Morning Canasta Club.
Enjoy!
