Spotify

So, I was sent a link by a friend to download Spotify, bypassing the need for an invite. For those of you who don’t know, Spotify is a legal, music-streaming library with almost everything and anything you could ask for… And I’ve only got the link right here for you too!http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/309960/free-invite-for-spotify-excellent-o

There you go. You should be able to just click ‘go to deal’ and bypass all need for an invitation!

So, upon downloading Spotify, I promptly tuned in to all those artists my little sister, Ceci the music guru, has recommended to me but I’ve been too poor to buy:

Mumford & Sons, already widely acclaimed, kicked off a very chilled New Year’s Eve nicely, accompanied by a home-made guacamole (avocado, garlic, sour cream, lemon juice). This was then, rather embarrassingly, followed by a dance to Beyonce’s Halo and hubby Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind (we love you Alicia). Wasn’t so keen on Grizzly Bear to be honest, which I know will upset the new age folk fans among us – a bit repetitive, especially after Mumford & Sons.

After the studio session on Wednesday, Mike and I popped to the Brittania in Richmond for a small one and I met his friend, Lawrence. Because we’d just been in the studio and because Lawrence is a keen singer-songwriter, we started to talk about music and the scene in Bristol (where he’s at uni, where I was at uni) and somehow we got on the subject of Johnny Flynn. Johnny was at drama school with Nelly (Caroline(dad’s partner)’s sister, who was also at school with me in Bristol, and on it goes…), so I feel like I sort of know him without ever having listened to his music. We’re also at the same agency so I see him as an equal (ha!). Anyway, I had a listen to his stuff last night and wow. Yes. Good. And then, I remember Ceci saying ‘yeah, he plays with Laura Marling all the time’ and this rung a bell because someone else with Spotify said I should listen to Laura Marling, and so I typed l a u r a  m a r l i n g  into my spangly new music generator and I feel like I’ve just had the most intense injection of the contemporary folk scene and I absolutely love it. Feels like home. [clever folk among you will notice that the link for Laura Marling is to a gig in Bristol… you see how it all ties together??! I’m starting to believe it’s destiny that I shall follow in Johnny and Laura’s footsteps – god, first name terms, I have to stop].

Anyway, so that’s the beauty of Spotify. I’ve started writing a new song, thanks to Laura and Spotify.
