Is it me? Aren’t these the same singer?

Written by

I’m a Talking Heads fanatic.  I think the movie Stop Making Sense is the single best use of film.  I love post Heads David Byrne.   I couldn’t believe he would do the sound track for Ice Age when I heard the song below.  But I thought, hell, he did Something Wild years ago, maybe he just wanted to something more…

After a massive argument with my daugher swearing that it wasn’t David Byrne did I found out these are apparently different people.  I demand a public vote:

1. David Byrne, Sound track to Something Wild, Loco De Amor

2. Rusted Root, Sound track to Ice Age, Send Me (On My Way):

I think it is probably just me…

By they way, I’ve blogged on Something Wild before.  Buy here (I get no cut).  It has a great soundtrack as all Demme directed films do (he also directed Stop Making Sense) and the best us of music for artistic effect.  Essentially the movie is a tale of two halves – the first half is comedy and the second is thriller.  The division comes when the Feelies, acting like a bad high school reunion band, finish Fame and Ray Liotti enters as the very bad guy at  minute 3.03 of the clip below:

:

And a little plug for the Feelies – It’s Only Life has one of the best song openings of all time:

That’s it.

  1. Jimmy, I’m with you on this one. I heard Rusted Root on Pandora and thought it was a song I’d not heard before by Talking Heads.

  3. I was trying to find the On My Way song and searched for “On My Way Talking Heads” because it sounded like Talking Heads in my fuzzy memory. You’re not alone and your page helped me find the right song.

  4. Omg. Just found this post! I’ve thought it was David Byrne all along – no wonder I couldn’t find it (I wanted to buy a download, with no success). Thanks for helping me find it 🙂 Nx

  6. I just googled in that way too. Astonished to just learn this song isn’t the Talking Heads. It’s not just that the vocals sound just like David. It’s the song as well. It could be a track on one of their later albums. I just assumed it was! And I have them all.

  7. It is not just you! I found this by searching for David Byrne & Ice Age — a bonus was that I also learned of the song of that name by Byrne and St. Vincent…

  10. Just came across your site after saying to my wife “Is this David Byrne? Talking heads?” She looked at her Spotify and shook her head, “No, Rusted roots…”

I had to google it after that and now here I am. That’s the whole story. The end.
