The I Love Lucy Flush

Written by

I have a thing for toilets.  Well, not really.  I have a thing for the Washlet S400 series which has caused joy (click here) and agony (click here).     And I’ve never submitted a urinal as art and called it ‘Fountain.’   But I digress.     This is about real toilets and real art.

While reading a little study on commercial breaks (happened to be submitted on my 40th Birthday), I discovered in a little footnote.  This was unbelievable so I later verified it (click on toilets flushed during commercial breaks).

During the I Love Lucy Show in the US, so many American’s flushed their toilets during commercial breaks that massive water pressure drops happened in big American cities (Toledo and NYC).

Stunning fun fact.  Use it.   Free from us to you for cocktail parties.  You’re welcome.   For the record it is called the ‘I Love Lucy Flush’ and denotes a time when you’re show is really hot.   This in contrast to the Jumping the Shark, which basically means you’re show is tanking.

Further reading about the role of toilets and TV confirmed that the first toilet flush allowed on TV was with All in the Family.  They got away with it with censors and so had lots of toilet flushed every episode, after which Archie would walk downstairs with belt undone and magazine in hand.

There is a CD called Music for Toilets.    And there’s a nice little video about a toilet singing to the tune of Rockin’ in the Tree Tops:

But that is nothing compared to a little 40 second video called Sitting on a Toilet – I only just discovered it.  Me and 64,000,000 other people.    The world needs to get back to work.
